Dubai Duty Free is marking the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival with a promotion in cooperation with UnionPay International. The campaign runs from September 23 to October 7. It offers customers a chance to win Dubai Duty Free gift cards worth up to $41 (AED 150) for every spend worth $241 (AED 888) or more with UnionPay cards at Dubai Duty Free.
In addition, some beauty brands favored by Chinese including Lancome, Shiseido, L'Occitane, Estee Lauder, SK-II and Guerlain are offering 10 percent to 30 percent discounts on selected items. There is also a 10 percent discount on selected Tissot and Rado watches as well as a 'Buy one get one' and gift with purchase in other categories including liquor, tobacco and confectionery.
Dubai Duty Free said its partnership with UnionPay had been effective in reaching Chinese travelers, and had generated US$86.32 million in sales (4.7 percent of the total) in 2017 and US$81.22 million so far this year (to the end of August).
Chinese passengers now account for 4 percent of traffic at Dubai International but around 17 percent of spend at Dubai Duty Free. The most popular product categories are watches, precious jewellery, skincare and cosmetics.
As part of the festival campaign, traditional Chinese blooming flower imagery, Chinese Goddess of Moon displays and decorative hanging lanterns adorn the themed areas. Some of Dubai Duty Free's 798 Chinese staff gave away 5,000 moon cakes to departing Chinese passengers on September 23. |
