Day 4: North Kafue National Park
A short air transfer takes you to North Kafue National Park, where you spend one night at the exclusive Lunga River Lodge, situated on the bank of the scenic Lunga River. This owner-run lodge offers a totally remote experience in pristine bush. Activities include walking safaris, day and night game drives, and river excursions using motorboats and canoes. The Lunga River is teeming with hippo and crocodile, and offers excellent birding opportunities. There is a superb range of antelope, with frequent sightings of the grey duiker, oribi, grysbok, puku, waterbuck, bushbuck, sable, kudu and reedbuck. Predators here include lion, leopard, cheetah and crocodile
Day 5: North Kafue National Park
Today you set out early on a relaxing one day canoe and walking safari, camping overnight at the small and basic Nkondo Fly Camp. This is a great opportunity for birding, with the clear and deep Lunga River lined with lush trees.
Days 6-9: Busanga Floodplains
After an early breakfast your morning game drive will transfer you to Busanga Bush Camp in the heart of the Busanga floodplains for four nights. Activities at this remote camp are limited to day and night game drives. The area is perfect for huge herds of water-loving red lechwe and puku, along with buffalo, zebra, roan, oribi, steenbok, blue wildebeest and hippo. The high densities of antelope in turn attract predators and large prides of lion are spotted regularly on the plains. Cheetah and leopard also roam the plains and are often seen. The birding in the area is excellent with herons, storks and ibises, plus crowned and wattled cranes, Denham’s and kori bustards and secretary birds.
