Since 1993 Kande beach resort has been the place to go on the northern lake shore for travelers who like to meet people and enjoy the best of Lake Malawi. Situated on a 16km stretch of fine golden sand with Kande Island a few hundred meters off shore this resort is ideal for swimmers, divers and water sports enthusiasts. The lake is clear blue water as far as the eye can see, and the beaches are safe, clean and hazard free. With a PADI scuba diving school on site and sailing boats, windsurfers and canoes for hire there’s plenty to fill your days. For those wishing to relax there are hammocks and couches placed in the shady areas around the beach front, and a bird watching platform placed at the nearby river and wetlands area where you can see many of the rare species of central Africa. The resort is at the foot of the vihpiya escarpment where there are countless tracks and forest reserve areas to explore in your 4x4, on foot or by quad bikes which are available for hire to guests.
Kande beach bar is famous throughout Africa for its vibrant nightlife and great atmosphere. The Soft Sand cafe serves a wide range of both local and international meals and the resorts accommodation is suited to all budgets from camping and dorms to beach chalets and en-suite rooms. The resort caters for large groups and camping safari tours as well as individual travelers and families. Cultural tours of the local tonga village can be arranged and nearby are stables with 28 horses offering rides for every level, where you can finish off your ride by swimming on horseback in the lake. The resort is located half way between Nkhata bay and Dwangwa and is easily reached from Mzuzu in the north or Lilongwe to the south.
Camping facilities include electricity sockets, hot showers and modern ablutions. Camping space is vast and there are plenty of sheltered areas. There is a shop on site for your personal needs as well as some curios and t shirts etc.
