For twenty years, Dedza has been noted for its famous pottery - the largest hand crafted pottery in southern Africa. Now Dedza Pottery Lodge is open to guests with six, attractively furnished en-suite rooms with mini-bars and safes. There are electric heaters for the cooler weather and fans for the warm days.

The famous tea gardens, alongside the pottery shop, are supplemented by a new, award winning restaurant which has a roaring log fire in the cool, crisp evenings of June and July. Both the lodge and restaurant have easy wheelchair access. The lodge has a kitchenette where complimentary tea and coffee can be had.

The pottery is open to guests to view the work and, if they wish, to place orders for pieces in almost any shape or design. Overseas, insured shipment to almost anywhere in the world can be arranged.

The town of Dedza is nearby, as is a cultural village. Guests can also visit the famous Mua Mission with its museum and wood carving workshops. Carvings, said to be the best in Africa, can be purchased here. Visits to the cave paintings at Chongoni (now a World Heritage Site) can also be arranged.

Dedza Pottery Lodge is run by Nyasa Lodges, which also runs the Nkhotakota Safari Lodge. The company also offers tours which include stays at their lodges and other highlights in Malawi and Zambia.
