Situated in Majete Wildlife Reserve, in the Lower Shire Valley, Thawale camp provides excellent accommodation for visitors wishing to enjoy game viewing in the newly re-stocked reserve. Long neglected, Majete has been the scene of an impressive programme of re-location of a great range and impressive numbers of animals including elephant, buffalo, black rhino, sable antelope, zebra, eland, hartebeest and kudu. Further re-locations are planned over the next years. The big cats will also be re-introduced in the future. The re-birth of Majete has been the work of the organisation African Parks Networks.
Thawale Camp accommodates just eight guests in luxury en suite bush tents with overhead fans. The generous spacing ensures privacy and each tent has a deck at the front from which to view a water pool where animals come to drink. The camp lies within the Majete Sanctuary and isn’t fenced so it is common to see animals within the area. A lapa (an African thatched gazebo) is situated between the four tents and provides a shady place to enjoy a cold drink. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will also be served in the lapa.
Guests can enjoy a wide range of activities including game drives, elephant tracking (on foot!), and bush walks. Visits can be made to local villages and to see community projects and local dancers.
