Chipembere & Migudu Camps , Mwabvi Wildlife Reserve

Situated inside Malawi’s most southerly Wildlife reserve, Mwabvi, these two camps offer the exciting chance to experience real wilderness and even to help with important conservation work.

Mwabvi was in danger of complete deforestation and loss. Since Project African Wilderness began their conservation work there a few years ago, they have worked with local people to create the Mwabvi Wildlife and Community Trust who manage the camps.

Chipembere Camp, on the edge of the reserve, has camping places and dormitory accommodation. Guests are expected to be self catering; there are kitchen facilities plus showers and toilets. Electricity is available for the evenings and potable water is available from a borehole.

Migudu Camp has 6 tented places nestling between sandstone outcrops. Each has its own braai/cooking area and viewpoint. A two storied game viewing deck is shaded by thatched roof. Firewood is available but visitors are expected to bring their own food and drinks.

Mwabvi is remote and beautiful and offers a unique experience. Come to see the sandstone outcrops and mopane woodlands, the beautiful Mwabvi River Gorge, the magnificent sable and kudu and plenteous birdlife. Come for longer to learn about the bush and wildlife management. Or stay as volunteers to help with the extensive conservation and community development programme.
