Jambo Africa is the proud owner of Nyala Lodge in Lengwe National Park, situated only 75 km from Blantyre. The lodge is easily accessible on good roads and the drive down the escarpment offers stunning views over the Lower Shire Valley and the Shire River running through it. Nyala Lodge offers comfortable en-suite chalets with hot water, mosquito nets and overhead fans and/or air conditioning, sleeping 2 to 4 people. Nyala Lodge has a well stocked bar and the restaurant offers delicious meals taken on the deck overlooking the bush where many animals graze nearby. To cool down on those well known hot days in the Lower Shire Valley there is a small swimming pool. The campsite has fully functional ablutions and barbeque facilities. Tents (sleeping anywhere from 2 to 8 people) can be rented from the lodge. Currently Jambo Africa is planning to build 3 small (non-ensuite) chalets on the campsite offering a more luxurious way of camping.
Lengwe is home to the beautiful Nyala Antelope, which is indigenous only to this Park in Malawi. This normally shy creature is a frequent visitor to the Lodge. There are many other species in the Park including Kudu, Impala, Bush Buck, Reed Buck, Buffalo, Duiker and Warthogs. The park is also home to over 300 bird species, an ornithologist’s paradise. The lodge offers game drives and walking safaris within the Park and excursions to the surrounding areas – Majete Wildlife Reserve, Kapichira Falls, Mwabvi Wildlife Reserve, Elephant Marsh, Nyala Park (Illovo Sugar Estate) and boat/fishing trips on the Shire River.
Nyala Lodge also organizes Traditional Village Evenings in the nearby village of Ndakwera where guests are treated to the traditional village life, traditional dances and a traditional meal. Visits and guided tours to Tisunge! – Lower Shire Heritage Centre at the gate of Lengwe National Park and other cultural sites in the area can be arranged through the lodge. In the near future Jambo Africa/Nyala Lodge will start offering 3-day trails through the park and surrounding areas combining the culture and nature of this beautiful part of Malawi – the Lower Shire Valley.
