Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge

Ngorongoro Crater Sopa Lodge Tanzania

A World Heritage site, and often referred to as the Eighth Wonder of the World, Ngorongoro Crater, in the volcanic highlands of Tanzania, covers an area of some 240 square kilometres and is host to over 20,000 large animals.
Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge itself is an architectural marvel built on the rim of the collapsed volcano that can boast the most magnificent views over the crater floor, home to vast herds of buffalo, wildebeest and zebra, the rare and endangered black rhino, mighty bull elephant, cheetah, leopard, lion and herds of gazelle and hartebeest. Most of the wildlife is found on the crater floor, a short drive from the lodge. High on the crater rim it can be a little chilly in the lodge in the evenings and, during the colder times of the year, log fires blaze gloriously in the restaurant and bar and central heating and hot water bottles in the bedrooms ensure a cozy stay.
A popular venue for conferences, due to its incomparable location, easy accessibility, size and facilities, the lodge has a very romantic setting, ideal for weddings and special occasions, with the crater floor providing a very special experience for bush breakfasts, picnics and lunches.
Within an area which has been inhabited by man and beast for over three million years, Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge offers calm and tranquility, allowing its guests to soak up the sensations of viewing the spectacular whilst enjoying the highest levels of service and attention.
Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge

Often described as the ‘Eighth’ Wonder of the World, the Ngorongoro crater is so spectacular that it touches all the senses. A volcanic crater of over 259 square kilometres with surrounding walls rising 609 metres above it, the crater is a natural sanctuary for over 25,000 animals, including the black rhino. It is also a conservation area inhabited by the Masai tribe.

The Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge is built onto the rim of this amazing natural phenomenon, a stunning plant and local creeper covered stone lodge where guests co-exist in perfect harmony with the surrounding natural environment and wildlife.
Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge, close to some of the earliest dwellings of man in Olduvai Gorge, has taken their cave paintings as inspiration. It is built of stones and boulders and is literally hidden in the vegetation of the crater’s rim, disappearing completely from view from the crater’s floor. The interiors are filled with exquisite wooden furniture and African artifacts, and stunning frescoes adorn the walls of many rooms and public areas. All bedrooms have private terraces with uninterrupted views across the grasslands, forests, lakes and rivers that make up the crater floor.

The hotel has 75 rooms. Activities include game drives through the crater where you will see a microcosm of Africa in one day, bush walks, picnic lunches, excursions to the nearby Olduvai Gorge, the ‘birthplace of mankind’ and a variety of cultural events.

Ngorongoro Crater Lodge

Perched on the edge of the famous Ngorongoro Crater at the eastern edge of the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is without doubt one of the most architecturally spectacular lodges in Africa. The Crater, considered one of the natural Wonders of the World, is a World Heritage Site. This area is also home to Olduvai Gorge where some of the earliest human origins were found. Inspired in design by the Maasai mud and stick manyatta, Ngorongoro Crater Lodge comprises 3 intimate camps, North Camp (12 suites), South Camp (12 suites) and Tree Camp (6 suites), each offering breathtaking views and private butler service.

One-of-a-kind safari lodge: Inspired in design by the Maasai mud-and-stick manyatta (homestead), three intimate camps comprise romantic suites perched on the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater – a World Heritage site. Steeped in romance, each mud and thatch suite is reminiscent of a bygone era, with the stilted, handcrafted structures adorned in graceful antiques, grand chandeliers and African treasures. The bedroom, sitting room and en suite bathroom boast floor-to-ceiling glass windows, overlooking the magnificent Crater below. Your personal butler will discreetly tend to your every need, bringing you tea in bed, stoking your fireplace and drawing your bath.

Described as Maasai meets Versailles, each extraordinary camp operates independently with its own central living and dining areas and viewing decks. Early settler-style interiors combine silver, gold and ruby colours under banana-leaf ceilings and grass roofs. Beaded chandeliers hang above large gilt mirrors, and antiques, plump cushions, voluptuous raw silk curtains and leather-backed chairs blend harmoniously with African art elements.

The domed dining room, with its fireplace, crystal, silver and massive wooden platters, makes every meal a special occasion. Delicious Pan-African cuisine may also be enjoyed on the outdoor dining deck.
