Nyika-Vwaza (UK) annual lecture and social evening
Posted on: Monday, October 25, 2010
On the 9th November the Nyika-Vwaza (UK) Trust will be hosting their annual lecture and social evening at the Royal Geographical Society. Professor Anthony Young will present a lecture entitled “Thin on the Ground : Land Resources Survey in Malawi and the Commonwealth”. Professor Young shall tell the story of how the agricultural potential of Malawi was assessed, as a contribution both to Colonial history and to the history of science.
Anthony Young was Professor of Environmental Sciences at the University of East Anglia, and subsequently Principal Scientist at the International Centre for Research in Agroforestry, Nairobi. He holds a DSc degree in Tropical Land Resources and the Cuthbert Peek Award of the Royal Geographical Society. His numerous and wide-ranging publications on environment, resources and land management include studies of the development problems of Malawi extending over more than 40 years. The Year 2010 has been declared by the United Nations as the International Year of Biodiversity, to which this lecture will be a contribution. This will be a “must-not miss” evening for all interested in the capacity of Malawi's land to feed its people.
Tickets £18
The Royal Geographical Society (Exhibition Road Entrance), London SW7 2AR
Lecture starts at 6:45pm
