News on new lodge at MajetePosted on: Tuesday, August 31, 2010
Robin Pope Safaris have been very busy building a new lodge in Majete Wildlife Reserve in the South of Malawi near Blantyre. The new lodge, which is situated on the Mkulumadzi River (and can currently only be accessed by wading through the waters – 80m suspended footbridge on its way..) and will be run entirely of solar power is surrounded by incredible wildlife. Come 5 o’ clock when the builders leave, the site is reclaimed by the resident wildlife of hippos and birds.
So far two out of five chalets are at roof level and the main lodge building is beginning to take shape. Building a lodge in the middle of a wildlife reserve is not without its problems, sticking to strict site rules; no harassing animals, no littering, no cutting of trees, leave that tortoise alone!
Along with the construction, there is a lot on the go this month with the final translocation of 600 more animals to the reserve. Sable, waterbuck and impala are all on the way from Liwonde National Park and will be released in to Majete mid-August. A participation safari is being run alongside the relocations where guests are involved in all aspects of the program, from the capture and release to darting and collaring of a number of elephants already in Majete. The satellite collars being fitted to the elephants will allow scouts to monitor the movements of certain individuals and herds more closely
Meanwhile, until 31st October choose your favourite Robin Pope Safaris camp in Zambia: Nkwali, Nsefu and Tena Tena and combine it with Pumulani on Lake Malawi in an unbeatable “bush and beach" package.
